Bihar Tourism: Heritage and Religious Land

Bihar has a history as old as the human civilization, this is where the Two religions Budhusm and Jainism is born. In terms of tourism Bihar can amaze you by its heritage sites of Sasaram, where the Tomb of Sher Shah Suri can be seen in good condition.

Vaishali, one of the first known republic of the world is there and now a days it is a district. The first University took shape in Bihar as the Nalanda University (5th century BC) now a major Educational center in Bihar. Some of the Greatest Empires of Bihar are Maurya Empire which was one of the World's largest empires in its time.

Some of the famous destinations that one can visit in Bihar are:
  • Bodh Gaya (Gaya): A famous Pilgrimage of Buddhism.
  • Rajgir: The first capital of Magadh Kingdom, which eventually become the Mauryan Empire and shifted its capital to Patliputra (now called Patna). The city is said to be as old as 1000 BC.
  • Patna: The capital of Bihar.
  • Nalanda: World's oldest University town.
  • Pawapuri: Lord Mahavira, the founder of Jainism, breathed his last at this place.
